On July 28th the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) announced the 10th National Prescription Drug Take-Back is September 26, 2015. According to the DEA, "Prescription drug abuse is a huge problem and this is a great opportunity for folks around the country to help reduce the threat. Please clean out your medicine cabinet and make your home safe from drug theft and abuse.”
Drugs Missing from Medicine Cabinets Help the Illegal Drug Trade & Addiction
The number of accidental poisonings and overdoses stemming from drugs taken from people's homes is staggering, and increasing. On National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, everyone with unused drugs in their homes can safely dispose of them with no questions asked, by dropping them off at any of hundreds of locations.
Thank you! Last year you helped BIG TIME!
Last year, 138 collection sites removed over 16,000 pounds of drugs from Florida homes. If you haven't seen our manatee graphic about that, check out our 2014 Drug Take Back Day Totals for Florida graphic.
The national total for all 9 previous take-back days nationwide is a staggering 4,823,251 pounds. That's almost 5 MILLION pounds of drugs removed from circulation. We haven't done the math yet for how many manatees that is!
